We had a nice weekend at home, the highlight of which may have been our visit from the fire department. More on that in a minute, though.
On Thursday, Tom's co-workers threw us a shower at the school. We were both in awe of how generous they were, especially since Tom has only worked there for a few months--some of them said they didn't even know he was married! We got a lot of cute baby clothes and lots of diapers, among other things. The top shelf in our laundry room, which had previously held nothing, is now filled with diapers of all kinds! That makes Tom very happy. We got more gift cards as well, so on Friday night, we made one last big Babies R Us run, where we got pretty much everything we felt like we still needed, including the convertible carseat (which we won't need for at least another 8 months or so, but between coupons and gift cards, we figured there was no time like the present!). We stopped for frozen yogurt on the way home at a place called Yogurt Mountain, which is a self-serve place with a bunch of flavors and more toppings than you could ever want--it was delicious!!
When we got home, we decided to turn on the fireplace and plug in our Christmas lights and watch a movie, since the weather has finally turned here. It was the perfect night for cuddling up on the couch. We settled in to watch the movie, and about an hour and half into it, Tom bolted up from the couch, shouting something about forgetting to open to flue. Yes, folks, we forgot to open the flue on our natural gas fireplace. Intelligent, I know. Fortunately, we have a carbon monoxide detector, and it wasn't going off, so we didn't panic right away. When I say we, I mean I. I did not panic right away. Tom, on the other hand, was freaking out. In typical male-dealing-with-a-sudden-crisis fashion, his best solution to the problem at hand was to storm around the house kicking things and shouting obscenities. His second best solution was to get out the credit card and tell me to go to a hotel by myself, while he stayed at home to get carbon monoxide poisoning by himself. Fortunately, I had a couple other tricks up my sleeve. The first being to instruct Tom to stop being ridiculous and make himself useful by opening the doors and windows to ventilate the house. Then, I looked up the number to the local volunteer fire department and had Tom call to explain our situation. The firemen were super nice and said they would come out to double check to make sure everything was okay. So, five minutes or so later, just before midnight on a Saturday night, the firemen arrived at our house. In their fire truck. Lights flashing. Jumpsuits on. Including helmets. I kid you not. I was relieved. Tom was mortified. Thye were great about it though, and checked everything they possibly could to make sure everything was safe. The good news is that everything was just fine. The oxygen levels in our house were totally normal and they said we have a very clean-burning fireplace. Hooray!
Saturday was a little less eventful (thank goodness). We ran some errands around town and then went out for dinner and a movie. We met up with Navy and Shannon at the movie theater and saw "Unstoppable," which we definitely recommend! Sunday was even quieter than Saturday, with the traditional Browns-watching and grocery store trip being the highlights.
Today is the "35/35" milestone in the pregnancy--35 weeks pregnant and 35 days to go until the due date! Diaper bag is packed, stroller is assembled, nursery closet is organized and we're almost ready to go. We just need a baby now--hopefully sooner rather than later!
